Intern Joins New Leaf for Summer

Help us welcome Jai Means back to New Leaf Landscape Services. He’s our summer intern and a rising 5th-year student at the University of Georgia in Landscape Architecture.

“I’ve been involved in landscaping since high school, particularly with drafting,” Jai says. “Combine that with my love of being outdoors and landscape architecture is a natural course of study for me.”

Jai, a graduate of Habersham High School, will be working in all aspects of the company, from field work to being mentored by New Leaf Landscape Architect Beth Garmon.

A native of Cornelia, Jai is no stranger to New Leaf. A few years ago he worked with us on our maintenance crews.

When he’s not studying or working, Jai enjoys playing softball in his church league and playing sports.

“I’m very fortunate to be working with Steve and Beth and the rest of the staff here at New Leaf,” he says. “It’s a great learning environment.”

Summer Pruning and Maintenance

When was the last time you had your shrubs and trees pruned? It’s necessary to stimulate good growth during the summer season and also helps with reshaping and invigorating plants.

Our staff knows which plants to prune when for the best results. For instance, plants that bloom on old growth should be pruned after they bloom for maximum color next year. Now is a great time to call us for pruning if you’re not a year-round maintenance customer.

If you are a year-round maintenance client, we’re doing some sort of pruning weekly at the proper times for your plants. However, if you’re not, call us at 678-450-6599 to get on the schedule.

Linwood Playground Project Moves Forward

The foundation work for Phase I of the Linwood Apartments Playground in Gainesville is complete. As a community project of New Leaf Landscape Services, we have graded and installed landscape timbers and child-safe mulch, thanks in part to a generous donation from Lakewood Baptist Church toward the $12,000 project budget.

Our next step is building the playground with new equipment. We’ve donated the design and labor and now are seeking community support for this worthwhile project. If you’d like to know more, call us at 678-450-6599 and ask for Beth.
